They came up 22 yards short of breaking the most rushing yards as a team in the state semis or championsip last week. They could have beaten that record easy but called off the dogs.
The Raiders have tied two records and can break a couple more Saturday if they win.
The first tie:
They are only the second Div I Region D team to play in 3 consecutive state title games. The other team was Appalachia, 1992-defeated Strasburg 26-20. 1993 Lost to Middlesex 10-6. 1994-defeated Middlesex 72-7.
The second:
At 13-0, Burton has tied Appalachia's 1993 team (13 wins)which fell one game short of the ultimate goal-14-0.
Records they can break.
1. If they win Saturday they would become the only Div I Region D team to go 14-0.
2. A win Saturday would also be the first 14-0 season in Raider history. NOTE: The 1972 team went 13-0 before division play and before wildcards. The 72 Raiders got a bye and played one game for the Region D title, then the state semi-final and capped it off with their state title win over Madison County.
Good luck Raiders, Let's make some history!!!!!!!!!

The Raider couldn't have had a bye in 72 becuae there were no byes. The District Champ had the Region, Semis, and Finals. Back then you had to win the District to make the playoffs.

Welcome to the USSA!
In 1972 there were 3 districts in Region D and only the District champions played for Region. The highest seed got a bye(Burton).
LPD
Cumberland
Black Diamond
Unbeaten 10-0 Burton won the LPD, got the bye and played the winner of the Cumberland District Champion vs. the Black Diamond District Champion for the Region D title.
I want to see JI Burton to GIT-R-DONE

Gotcha, so if the Cumberland or BDD champ had beaten Burton and eventually advanced to the Final they would have played 14 games, correct?

There were no byes the two district champions with the most power points played for the regional title in region D. From 71-74 pennington won the CD Championship 3 times and made the playoffs 1 time, in 1974.
That's what I thought because I'd never known any team to finish with more than 13 games before they increased the playoff field. Thanks for the clarification.

Well anyway, they only played 13 games back in the day and Burton can set a record if they win.
The first year that "Regional semi-finals" were held was 1976 : 10-0 Clintwood got a bye, then hosted 9-1-1 Pennington, which won in OT.
The first 14-0 teams were '77 champs Parry McCluer & Hampton. 13-0 Clintwood had a bye in '78.
